Welcome to the Staying Stable Series
Women entrepreneurs share their secrets for staying stable as they ride the emotional roller coaster of running a business.
I first met Andréa Jones at the 2018 Inspire by GWEn Conference.
There she shared her business success story, including some of the emotional challenges along the way.
Design your life for yourself. -Andréa Jones
I was struck by the powerful message Andréa shared there: design your life for yourself.
This is so important when it comes to entrepreneurship, and to thriving in the work, especially as a woman entrepreneur.
Everyone’s needs are different, so everyone’s life needs to be adapted to them, and no-one else.
This is all the more true when looking at the issue of mental health.
But it is also important to take into account the similarities we experience so we know we are not alone in our challenges.
“A lot of my anxiousness comes from resistance. I don’t want to feel anxious, then I feel anxious about feeling anxious and it’s a vicious cycle.”-Andréa Jones
I know from working with clients that this is a common theme. It’s the nature of anxiety. For some people, just knowing it’s the nature of anxiety, and not a personal flaw, can be a relief.
At the same time, it is also very important to be aware that everyone’s needs are different.
The tools that help me the most today are mindfulness and meditation.-Andréa Jones
Andrea said, “The tools that help me the most today are mindfulness and meditation.”
But she shares a caveat in the recording below that’s important to take in.
Click to listen as Andréa takes us through her mental health journey, and shares a very important tip about what helped her.
Keep trying. -Andréa Jones
As Andréa said, “Keep trying. There are a lot of tools. You have to give yourself a chance to try it and figure out what tools work for you and that will help you get to your next step on the journey.”
